"As part of The LAB's Radical Epiphanies series, Randy Nordschow will be
premiering his new interdisciplinary work 'Transitoire', a collaboration
with video artist Tarrl Morley. The piece is scored for 5 electric guitars,
live video projection, ice, water, and an amplified space heater. The composition
juxtaposes several layers of periodicity that shape the musical time,
rhythm, and textural density of the music. Some of the sound elements used
have very little or no performative control: therefore, natural laws and
physics will determine the sound production and add periodic random vertical
divisions to the overall structure of the piece. Performers include: Sharon
Cheslow, John Dieterich, Alex Potts, Greg Saunier, and Edward Shocker.
Also performing will be LA based performance artist Rika Ohara. She will
present the world premiere of "Shelter 8", a time based installation
incorporating static imagery, suspended choreography, and sound to
culmulatively afftect our perception of time and remind us of the
iconographic persistence of the mushroom cloud."
